A Guide to Looking Your Best in Your Wedding Photos
One of the most common things I hear from couples during consultations is, “I’m not really photogenic.” And honestly, you’re not alone.
With all the planning that goes into a wedding—from choosing your venue and vendors to deciding on every little detail—it’s easy to forget one important thing: you’re going to be in front of a camera for most of the day.
But looking great in your wedding photos isn’t about being naturally photogenic or knowing exactly how to pose. It’s about preparation, good direction, and most importantly, allowing yourself to be present and enjoy the experience.
Over the years, I’ve photographed couples with very different personalities—some who are completely comfortable in front of the camera and others who would rather stay behind it. Here are a few things I recommend to help you feel confident and look your best on your wedding day.

1. Invest in looking good
Your wedding day is one of those moments when it’s okay to go all out.
Take care of your skin, stay hydrated, get enough rest, and choose a makeup artist and hairstylist whose work genuinely fits your vision. The goal isn’t to look like someone else. It’s to look like the best version of yourself.
When you feel good, it naturally shows in your photographs.

2. Consider a pre-wedding or engagement session
If you’re nervous about being in front of the camera, an engagement session is one of the best ways to get comfortable.
It gives us an opportunity to work together before your wedding day. I get to learn how you interact, what poses feel natural to you, and how to bring out the best in both of you.
More importantly, you get to experience what it’s like to be photographed by me without the pressure of a wedding day.
By the time your wedding arrives, the camera won’t feel like a stranger anymore.

3. Keep your getting-ready space clean
Your getting-ready space is part of your wedding story.
I'll capture your dress, shoes, rings, invitations, accessories, bouquet, makeup, and meaningful moments with your closest people here.
Choose a space with natural light and room to move comfortably.
Tip: Keep personal items tucked away for a clean focus on you and your loved ones.

4. Trust my direction and be yourself
You don’t need to know how to pose. That’s my job.
I’ll guide you through your portraits and help you with positioning, movement, and posing so that your images feel natural and elegant.
But I also want you to forget about the camera sometimes.
Laugh. Talk to each other. Hold hands. Take a deep breath. Enjoy the people around you.
Some of my favorite photographs happen in the moments when couples stop thinking about being photographed and simply enjoy being together.

5. Put your phone away
Your wedding day moves incredibly fast.
As tempting as it may be to check your phone, respond to messages, post a story, or keep up with everything happening around you, try to disconnect for a little while.
You’ve spent months planning this day. Give yourself permission to actually experience it.
The more present you are, the more naturally your emotions come through in your photographs.

6. Have someone else handle the details
Your wedding day is not the time to be solving problems, answering questions, or directing guests.
If possible, have a wedding planner, coordinator, or member of your wedding party handle those responsibilities.
Your only job should be to enjoy your day.
When you’re relaxed and present, it makes a huge difference in your photographs—and it allows me to focus on capturing the moments that matter.

7. Don’t let the unexpected steal your joy
Things may not go exactly as planned—and that’s okay. Timelines may shift, the weather may change, or little details may look different than you imagined.
Don’t let the unexpected steal your joy. Breathe, laugh, dance, hug your loved ones, kiss your partner, and enjoy every moment.
You don’t need to be a model for beautiful wedding photos. Be present, trust the process, and let me capture the laughter, tears, excitement, and little moments that bring you back to how it felt.
Years from now, those are the memories you’ll cherish.
